I would like to inform you about the IDP students who need helps for studying at Day Bu Noe Number 1 high school, Mutraw District, Karen State. Their needs are (1) Foods- basic food (rice, salt, oil), (2) lights for reading-candles or solar cell, (3) school fee, (4) Personal needs-uniforms, umbrellas, sandals.
The big problem which they are facing now is the food shortage with their families. The Burmese military destroyed and burned their village and set up the camp near their villages in 1997. They cannot go back to their village to farm and they also don't have good land to do the rotational farming. Although peace talk between the Karen National Union and Burma government has been initiative since January 2012 and has shown some progress, they are not daring to go back because the situation is not completely stable yet. Moreover, the government forces have increased their military supplies ever since the KNU signed a ceasefire agreement. This is another main reason why they do not have confidence to go back to their village.
The consequence of the new farming leads them to less crop product. In 2008, some family moved to Ter May Ta, Pay Kay village tract, Luthaw Township, Mutraw District. Even they moved to new place, they don't get enough food for the families.
So they asked KESAN research team staff for help for supporting them to study. KESAN works is to deal with the environmental issue and we don't have fund for supporting the students. But we make sure these students really like studying and we are going to help them and to find support for them. These students will stay with KESAN women staff at the KESAN research team office and they will contribute their energy to help planting the vegetables and fruit trees in the garden.
